It has been confirmed that one of the most prominent champions of cryptocurrency in the UK Parliament, Matt Hancock MP, will deliver a keynote address at November’s Crypto A.M. Summit and Awards.
The MP for West Suffolk left his post as Secretary of State for Health and Social Care in June 2021. Since then, he has become a major proponent of crypto and blockchain technology.
This much was evident in an interview Mr Hancock gave to City A.M. earlier this year, in which he declared it his “mission” to get people in the UK to fall in love with digital assets.
As he put it in that May interview: “If we can love crypto, we can embrace it. We can get a good strong regulatory system – a liberal regulatory system – that nevertheless has the rules there that are appropriate to the modern use of technology.”
The confirmation of the former minister’s involvement in the summit – which is set to be held for the third time – comes in the wake of recent comments by the current Economic Secretary to the Treasury, indicating that the new Liz Truss-led Government remains committed to transforming the UK into a global crypto hub.
“The UK succeeds when we embrace new technology”
The Crypto A.M. Summit and Awards will take place from 22nd to 24th November 2022 at Leonardo Royal Hotel London St Paul’s, with several of the best-known figures in the crypto sector set to be present.
Mr Hancock expressed his delight at being asked to speak at the ceremony, “having watched Crypto A.M. go from strength to strength.”
He continued: “Crypto combines my love of technology, which I’ve had since I worked in my family’s tech business, and my fascination with finance, which led me to spend five years at the Bank of England… I very much look forward to meeting many of City A.M.’s readers in November, and discussing my mission to make Britain love crypto, because the UK succeeds when we embrace new technology.”
James Bowater of City A.M. is set to host the event, which will see two days of discussion and debate, accompanied by workshops and opportunities to network. Honours will then be handed out, encompassing some 20 categories, at a gala Thanksgiving-themed dinner on the final day of the event.
It all makes for quite the exciting prospect for those across the UK and beyond who have an interest in, or routinely engage with, the crypto space. More information about the summit and awards can be found on the dedicated website at https://www.cityam.com/camsa22/.
