Phentermine is used as part of a short-term plan, along with a low calorie diet, for weight reduction. It is used in obese patients who have not been able to lose weight with diet and exercise alone. Phentermine belongs to the group of medicines known as appetite suppressants that will significantly decrease the desire for extra calories, speed up metabolism and increase fat burning. Recommended dose is 35.7mg per day for 3 months, followed by cycling off for an equal period of time. Often patients will switch to 5-Amino 1MQ or the Elite Weight Loss Stack I during this break. 5-Amino or EWLI may be used in conjunction with Phentermine (or Elite Thermogenics).

How should you use this medication?

Take this medication by mouth with a glass of water. Follow the directions on the prescription label. Take your medication at regular intervals. Do not take it more often than directed. Do not stop taking except on your care team's advice. Talk to your care team about the use of this medication in children. While this medication may be prescribed for children 17 years or older for selected conditions, precautions do apply.

What are the possible side effects of this medicine?    

Side effects that you should report to your care team as soon as possible:

• Allergic reactionsâskin rash, itching, hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or

• Heart failureâshortness of breath, swelling of the ankles, feet, or hands, sudden weight gain, unusual weakness or fatigue
• Pulmonary hypertensionâshortness of breath, chest pain, fast or irregular heartbeat, feeling faint or lightheaded, fatigue, swelling of the ankles or feet Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your care team if they continue or are bothersome):
• Change in taste
• Diarrhea
• Dizziness
• Dry mouth
• Restlessness
• Trouble sleeping
