Chennai is widely regarded as the Detroit of Asia.

The South Indian metropolitan city plays host to a number of automobile manufacturing units of big names such as BMW, Renault, Nissan, Hyundai etc., Successive governments have helped the industry thrive with their policies and incentives, resulting in employment across the country.

The city and the State it's part of cannot be overlooked when the industrial sector seeks to sell its products. This is reiterated by a recent report that the sale of luxury cars in the city is on the up.

An official data points to a surge in luxury car sales, year-over-year (2022/2021).

Chennai has recorded a sale of over 610 units of luxury cars in 2022, compared to 400+ units in 2021. The brands include Lamborghini, Ferrari, Aston Martins, Bentl etc., A single unit of these cars runs into hundreds of lakhs of Indian Rupees.

These are encouraging signs after the Corona induced lockdown panicked the Indian markets.

It has to be noted that the tax difference between Tamil Nadu and Puducherry has reduced, as a result of which many choose to register their cars in the State itself, unlike in the past when buyers rushed to Puducherry for saving cash. And it's also lesser than that of States like Karnataka and Kerala.
