Police in Bali, Indonesia, said on Wednesday that the two Chinese citizens who were found dead at a hotel on May 1 had not been killed by others, and that their deaths had been caused by an internal conflict between the two, local media reported.

Police said at a news conference that according to their investigations, the man had strangled the woman with the belt from a dressing gown and then took his own life by stabbing his neck and other parts of his body with a broken beer bottle at an InterContinental hotel in Bali, Bali Post reported.

Police said their deaths had been caused as a result of "internal problems between them". While previously staying at another hotel in the Sanur area of Bali, the pair had been seen arguing and the man's left hand appeared to be injured, said Police Commissioner Bambang Yugo Pamungkas in Denpasar, capital of Bali province.

The man was found dead in the hotel hallway and the woman was found dead in the bathtub in the room that they had stayed in. Both were naked, local police added.

Local media previously reported that the room had been booked by the woman, who checked in alone on April 30. The man is said to have arrived at 12:17 am on May 1. The two later ordered food, which was delivered to the room at around 1:20 am.

At 6:34 am on May 1, a hotel staff member received a call from a guest who said they heard calls for help from the hallway. Staff then discovered the bodies, according to local media reports.
