The history of 138 (as a number) can be traced back to the ancient Roman calendar. It was a common year starting on Tuesday (link will display the full calendar) and ending on Saturday (link will display the full calendar) of the Julian calendar.

During its period of operation, 138 was a regular passenger locomotive on the Cambrian line between Caernarfon and Porthmadog and then between Port Shepstone and Hibberdene. It also hauled the 'Gold and Silver Sponsors' trains on that route. 138's boiler ticket ran out during the Covid-19 pandemic and it was stored out of use at Dinas until its sister engine 143 returned to service in early October 2012.

The term 138 has also come to refer to a certain sub-genre of trance, popularized by Armin van Buuren's A State of Trance radio show. This genre is described as "faster, louder trance", and 138 (BPM) is its tempo. The 138 page on Wikipedia offers more details. SCP-138 is a human male, believed to be in excess of four thousand (4000) years old, and was discovered in an Egyptian tomb near the Tutankhamen Tomb unearthed in 1922. Subject is in a state of emaciation and appears to be suffering from multiple chronic diseases. Communication with the subject using civilian translators has revealed little about his past, and he repeatedly requests humanitarian euthanasia.
